All employees covered by Unemployment Insurance (UI)

Good news! We are updating the functionality of our Minnesota Unemployment Insurance system to collect wage detail reports and payments for both UI and Paid Leave programs.

All employees covered by UI move to a Joint UI/Paid Leave account

This means if you have:

  • Already registered with UI and have been reporting wage detail for all your employees, you do not need to register again. You are already in compliance with Minnesota’s Paid Leave law. We will automatically make your account a Joint UI/Paid Leave account.
  • Not already registered with UI, you will register once for a Joint UI/Paid Leave account.

What’s next:

  • For now, just submit wage detail quarterly. Everything will work the same way.
  • Wage detail submission and the collection of Unemployment Insurance taxes and Paid Leave premiums will take place in the current UI system.
  • You will submit a single electronic wage detail report each quarter. The amounts due for Unemployment Insurance taxes and Paid Leave premiums will be calculated for you.
  • Calculation of Paid Leave premiums will begin with your first quarter 2026 wage detail submission.
  • First premiums for Paid Leave will not be due until April 2026.
  • We will update this website with more information as we get closer to the Paid Leave program’s start date in 2026.
  • If you run into an issue or have questions, please let us know. We are rolling out system functionality incrementally to assist the Paid Leave program and we know that it will take us time to get it all right. Don’t worry, we will make sure that you have plenty of time to meet Paid Leave requirements.
